Hello book lovers! November is not kind to my blogging habit and I mostly abandoned blogging for four-five weeks. Time, and my obsession with my novel’s word count, got the better of me. My plans to blog regularly disappeared and I ended up with a few scattered scheduled posts.
I have mentioned in the past I am behind on everything, but guess what? I’m still behind and now even more so. With NaNo, and life, I haven’t been reading much. My life is far more involved and busy than it has been in a very long time. My issue now with being able to read is not about if I’m well enough to read, but if I have the time to read.
Time to read and time to blog.
It’s ok, I’m adopting methods to keep one of my favourite pastimes a main feature in my life. My main procrastination technique, playing games on my iPad, is slowly being replaced with reading. I’ve deleted many of the games and have begun reading during breakfast instead of playing Jelly Splash. It’s slow going, it’s not an every day thing, but it’s getting there.
I’ve also begun taking my Kindle to the gym and it’s been working well. I’ve read one and a half books so far and have been able to focus.
There aren’t going to be many reviews for a while, probably, but I am catching up on my reading and before you know it I am going to overload you with my opinions on books! Just twice a week… There’s also some blog tours happening early next year, that BA is taking part in, and so therefore more posts and reviews are coming.
Last, but not least, we’re in one of the most hectic times of the year. The holiday season throws the majority of people’s lives into chaos of parties, cooking, organising parties, travelling, present shopping, and whatever else causes you to go mad and forget yourself.
BA is always affected, naturally, except this year is different. I’m not sure how BA will be affected. In past years it has been a health and fatigue thing, but now I’m always doing something (here’s an example).
For starters my partner is a teacher and we’ve already made plans to spend as much time outside as possible. I have a new bicycle, so we’re even more biking mad. There’s family visiting as well.
A cousin is coming from interstate, another cousin and her husband are visiting from the UK, my eldest brother and family are also visiting from the UK, and then I’m going on my first holiday (as an adult) to Melbourne on New Year’s.
This will be my first holiday season since 2004 where I am actually functional, can see everyone, and don’t have to take days off to recuperate. I don’t have to miss parts of Christmas. I don’t have to miss the whole of Christmas. Except I’m not sure about posting so I think it is safe to say there will be several scheduled posts like there has been over November, with challenge posts, book trailers, and hopefully I can get it together to bring Features back.
I guess my point is, my life has forced my focus to change, but I’m not giving up on Bookish Ardour any time soon. BA is approaching it’s fourth birthday. I’ve spent far too much time and energy on BA in the past four years to give up on it when my life changes directions and becomes fuller.
BA has evolved and adapted to my life over the time it’s been live, I’m sure it can continue to do so no matter how crazy busy I get.
Anyway, enough about me. Here’s some updates on the actual blog.
Reading challenges are ending soon. This is why there is yet to be a Round-up post this month. Instead I have a reminder for you to get through those books, or try your hardest, and to begin sharing all your reviews.
Remember, don’t worry if you don’t reach your initial goal. Challenging yourself in the first place, enjoying yourself, and reading is what you want to achieve. If you did all that, reaching reading levels are a bonus.
1. Sign-ups for 2013: Sign-ups end on the 16th of December. I recommend only signing up for this year’s challenges, now, if you are a voracious reader and have time on your hands. Otherwise, next year.
2. Reviews and Completion Posts for 2013: The challenges end at midnight on New Year’s Eve, but the ability to submit review and completion post links is available till the 15th of January 2014. Do not count books read in 2014. This is to make sure those who haven’t been able to submit their links before the end of the year still have time to do so.
3. 2014 Reading Challenges: They will be available to begin signing up with very, very soon! BA’s having all the same challenges, except for one…, which will not be going anywhere, but evolving instead.
Important Note: Please keep in mind all dates mentioned are Australian Eastern Daylight Savings Time. If you are not in Australia, make sure you submit with timezone in mind.
BA’s Posting Challenge
This is currently happening, but if you are yet to join up and want to do so, you still can.
I haven’t finished questions, but we’ve got questions up until the end of January sorted and ready to be drafted. I did mention a while ago I would be sharing Christmas based and end of year based questions in a separate post from the Posting Challenge. Unfortunately this hasn’t happened and I’m not a hundred percent it will.
I will know by the end of the week. In the meantime there are questions you can answer, topics you can discuss, posts you can schedule, and there will be more topics going up within the next week.
I think this update has gone on long enough, at least I can’t think of anymore to say. If you want to see all the things I get up to, what keeps me from reading, you can follow my updates on my blog Bonnie Sparks Writes. Something of which I am also behind on, huzzah!
