Book Blogger Confessions: Blogging and Real Life

Book Blogger Confessions is a meme that posts the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month, where book bloggers “confess” and vent about topics that are unique to us. Feel free to share, vent and offer solutions.

Hosted by For What It’s Worth and Midnyte Reader. Check out the Book Blogger Confessions Schedule to see what topics are coming up.

Today’s Topic: How does blogging effect your *real* life? Are friends and family supportive? Do you find that blogging cuts into family time? How do you strike a balance between the two?

Thought: Sometimes I wonder how I balance anything in my life. I can get so focused on something, especially projects centered around websites, that I will block everything else out. It’s not exactly to the point where I don’t shower for a week, end up with bird’s nest as hair, and let the garbage bin overflow, but the place can get a little disorganised. I will wash clothes, but not put them away, or will let my emails pile up…

Oh wait, this happens naturally for me anyway because of my health. I must be getting confused.

I’ve learnt not to get so crazy with blogging. If I need to take a step back or if something else is going on then I will focus on other areas of my life. I do love blogging, but it’s not the be all and end all. I don’t want it to consume my time or me so I make sure, when I’m regularly blogging, that blogging isn’t the only thing I do. I purposely sit down and do more than one post in a blogging session so I can schedule them all and then don’t have to blog every day or can keep it down to once a week.

And now I have to go because my rabbit just sprayed all over me for the second time today and on my Mac. Oh joy! Who has time to blog when they have a spraying rabbit running around their house? I love smelling like pee!

What about you? Feel free to share in the comments or let me know if you’re taking part on your blog.

  1. I’m taking a BA Hons in Journalism, and part of our course was to create a wordpress blog on something that interested us. (I chose real life – people.) Since then there hasn’t been a day when it hasn’t occupied my thoughts! I’m not always posting, but It’s always on my mind. I’m always thinking about new topics I can cover, trying to uncover stories, finding new ways to gain an audience. Sometimes it drives me crazy! And all other pieces of coursework suffer for it too, but I do really enjoy blogging! Very fun 🙂

  2. Naughty bunny!

I agree. I love blogging, but I can’t make it the center of everything. I know people who do and their blogs are fantastic, but I want to do other stuff as well. I think that is a great idea to make yourself write more than one post at a sit down. Maybe I will try that.

  3. I got so crazy about blogging for a while that I was forgetting to pay bills. lol I really enjoyed it and meeting all the new bookish people but then I burned out and now I have a good balance going.

I guess people get like that with things sometimes but I never did before. I think it’s the social media aspect of it. There’s the actual blogging, then the commenting, twitter conversations etc. It ends up taking up the whole day. Or at least it did for me.
