Book Blogger Confessions is a meme that posts the 1st and 3rd Monday of every month, where book bloggers “confess” and vent about topics that are unique to us. Feel free to share, vent and offer solutions.

Today’s Topic: What is important in design for the blogs you follow? What features/elements do you appreciate? What are big turn off’s?
Thought: I find there’s a want and need element when it comes to designs on different blogs. I want neat, ordered, nice art and colouring just because I like it, but I don’t need another blog to have those things. Of course if it’s chaotic and no one can find anything then I will pass on the blog, but I don’t really care what the blog looks like as long as the content to follow is there.
I do however find I need certain elements and features in blog designs. Namely not garish colours, hard to read font, or flashing images. I think those things are just bad for attracting audiences anyway, but I can’t stand them because I can’t read anything. If you have something to say how are you going to reach people like me who get headaches from clashing, bright colours, and sore eyes from overly flashy images? I don’t see how that works in anyone’s favour.
Otherwise, there isn’t anything feature-wise I really look for or that turns me off. If it doesn’t hinder my reading and there is interesting content to peruse, then what have I got to complain about?

Flashing icons are very annoying. They remind me of the old websites from years ago!

I agree. Nothing too crazy or flashing!

I totally agree with all these items. Especially with the garish colors and flashing icons, etc. But you are correct. If a blog has a great post, I can overlook a lot.
