Teaser Tuesday: House Rules

Instead of Top Ten Tuesday, I felt like something different this week, so I’m doing a Teaser Tuesday. This is the first one I’ve done and I don’t know if I’ll do it again, but it’s nice to have all these memes for variety.

Teaser Tuesdays is hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading, you can find them by clicking the banner.

Here’s what to do from the blog;

  • Grab your current read
  • Open to a random page
  • Share two “teaser” sentences from somewhere on that page
  • BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn’t give too much away! You don’t want to ruin the book for others!)
  • Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

This week I’m reading House Rules by Jodi Picoult for my book club, which is interesting trying to find a random page when it’s an ebook! I don’t think you can go to a random page… Hmm… Apparently you can! Oh the things you learn by accident.

“The teacher made a popular boy wear fake glasses so I’d have someone to connect with, but as it turned out, he didn’t really want to talk about whether archaeopteryx should be categorised as a prehistoric bird or a dinosaur. Needless to say, that friendship lasted less than a day.”

I think that says a lot about that teacher and a big chunk of society, all it takes is something as simple as fake glasses to be able to connect with someone with Asperger’s Sydnrome. Yeah right.

Anyway, I haven’t really been enjoying this one, but that’s mainly because I’ve had a migraine during most of it so right now my opinions on it are associated with discomfort. I’m not going to really say anything about it till the end because of that except that it’s a pretty easy and quick read.

In other news: I’m not a fan of several posts a day and thought I’d share this here. Keep an eye out for a giveaway related to the book Bandits by LM Preston, which I read and reviewed recently. If you’re a YA reader and love adventure stories you might want to check it out.

  1. how did you go to the random page? I use a Kindle, and I just type in a random number in the “Browse To” area and read whatever is on that page.
Is there an actual randomising thing you can do?

My teaser is the latest fantasy novel by Elizabeth Moon from e-Volving Books

    • I’ve got a Sony Pocket Edition one and when you open up the book it shows the page number down the bottom. I discovered that if I press on that it comes up with a bar that I can either type in the page number or hit a spot and it will open up to a random page!

I don’t know about the kindle, but it’s worth playing around with it if you can.

      Thanks for the visit Dee.

    • It’s the first one I’ve read by her and won’t be reading any more, but then again she wasn’t really in my reading preferences to begin with.

      Thanks for visiting BookBelle.

  2. I didn’t know you could go to a random page with an ebook either. Will have to try that!

Sorry about your migraine – it definitely is a challenge to read with a migraine.

Interesting quote from the book! I haven’t read that book, though I’ve heard of it. Looking forward to your review.

    • I discovered that I can with mine! I was a little surprised with that to be honest. What eReader do you use?

Thanks, it’s now downgraded to a headache so I’m allowing myself some comment and much needed reading time!

I had to keep picking a new page because I kept coming across spoiler ones.

      Thanks for dropping by!
