Earlier last month I set out to read at least one book in the Readers Imbibing Peril V Challenge, a challenge to read dark fiction, which is hosted at Stainless Steel Droppings. I ended up exceeding that amount which I was surprised by. I had a thought about it and realised I shouldn’t have been surprised because I naturally veer towards dark fiction anyway, but between my book clubs and comic challenge I wasn’t sure how many reads I’d fit in.
I was going to attempt to see if I could fit any more in, but I have a few things coming up so thought I should end the challenge now. I signed up to do the Peril The Third challenge which is to read one book, but instead aimed for Peril The First which is to read four books and these are the books I read;
- Gone by Michael Grant
- Chasers by James Phelan
- Storm Front by Jim Butcher
- Vlad The Impaler: The Man Who Was Dracula by Jacobson and Colon
- The Crow: Flesh and Blood by Vance and Maleev
- The Sandman Presents: The Dead Boy Detectives by Brubaker and Talbot
- Carmilla by J Sheridan Le Fanu
I read a few extra because some of them are graphic novels. I think the best ones would be Chasers (so love that book now), Gone, The Dead Boy Detectives, Carmilla, and Vlad The Impaler.
Now that I know this is a yearly challenge I’m so planning ahead for the next one (hopefully it is re-hosted) and hopefully reading far more darker fiction.
Did you take part in the challenge? If you didn’t what would you have read?
