NaNoWriMo

It’s almost November which means the National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo) is almost upon us! Usually I miss it by a few days to a few weeks, but this time I have been reminded of it a few weeks in advance! I’m so excited! Can you tell by all the exclamation marks? And yes this all means I am taking part in it this time around!

Exclamation marks!

Sorry, I’m a little out of it at the moment. Basically I’m going to be writing like mad during November because the goal to reach is 50,000 words (175 pages) by midnight of the 30th. I have no idea if I’ll make that. Given my health and pain issues I might not, but I’m willing to give it a try. It’s nice to have the motivation and to be part of a writing community. I’ll be happy if I can make it to at least 40,000 words. I won’t get angry with myself if I make it to that.

I’m pretty much going to be entering into Hermitsville all that time which will be interesting because Sarah (poor Sarah) has never had to deal with me in writing mode before. I can be a little crazy. Just a little. We’ll know she’s a keeper if she isn’t’ ready to smack me by the time we come out of November!

This also means that I won’t be posting that much with all my typing and writing power going into this event (apart from my book clubs I won’t be doing anything except being a manic writer). So for the rest of the month I won’t be posting any reviews. Instead I’ll have them scheduled for November and spaced out so there is something to read. Plus I’ll try and pop in and do some Memes every week. I’m also organising the next Must Reads now which will be Must Reads: Books on Writing (how appropriate).

You can follow me on the website here or click the banner up top and they are going to have word count widgets which I’ll see if they are WordPress friendly.

Are you or anyone else taking part in NaNoWriMo? Would you like a writing buddy? Let me know!

  1. No problem!

No, I didn’t do NaNo this year. I was already in the middle of writing an Urban Fantasy novel (which I finished shortly before Nov ended) so I didn’t want to break off what I was doing for NaNo. If I’m not involved in a similar project this year, I will give it a shot.

  2. Bons, I’ve joined. I have been thinking this year that I want to give writing another go. I get caught up editing before I get more than 2,000-3,000 words, and never get any further. Yes, I aspire to write the perfect sentence *sigh* I have notebooks littered with these false starts. They are full of crossed out passages and reworked sentences. I am going to give it a go, not to achieve those 50,000 words, but to try and focus on writing more than I have in the past. It is purely a writing exercise for me, as I haven’t done much about my renewed interest in writing, aside from scrawling ideas in notebooks LOL However now I need to sit down and figure out what to write. I hate all the percolating ideas getting mixed up in my mind. My friend Ashley is writing an Urban Fantasy (it is good!!) and she had the same problem as I do. So she has deliberately chosen not to touch a sentence after she has written it, and is now up to chapter 17!! So I am going to take a leaf out of her book and try that.

    Good luck 🙂

    • I’m so excited! I have added you as a buddy if you hadn’t noticed yet (I’m so behind on my messages).

And Jacq, I’ve been reading your comments all over the place about perfectionism and getting caught up with details… That’s pretty normal. Do you know how often I can re-write the first page? Sometimes I don’t even get that far before I’m editing and rewriting. It’s so normal, it’s ordinary. So don’t worry about it because just about all writers go through it (and I think all artists in general).

Good luck with it! I hope you can achieve what you set out to.

    • I’ve added you as my buddy! I’ve been seeing on there, when I check other people out, quite a few people who already have their genre and everything like that up. I started to worry because I had no idea what I was writing even though I have ideas aplenty written down (I wanted to start afresh with this though). I was panicking, but then woke up a couple of days ago and had a little kernel of an idea.

How are you going with that so far? Have you been able to come up with something. It’s not mandatory though is it, just scary.

      Good luck to you too!
