BA’s 2013 Off the Shelf Reading Challenge
About: The Off the Shelf Reading Challenge is probably the most popular challenge there is on BA. The goal? To read books on your shelves that have gone unread for far too long. Selecting books from the year before (in this case, 2012 and before), read as many of the unread ones as you can. It’s up to you if you want to keep them or give them away afterwards, the main goal is to turn those unread books into read ones.
The Finer Deets
- The Main Rule: Do not include books acquired during 2013, it defeats the purpose, read those books from before 2013 started.
- Running dates for all 2013 challenges: 1st of January – 31st of December 2013
- Sign-Ups are accepted until the 16th of December 2013.
- Formats: All BA Challenges are eBook, audio, short story, and graphic novel friendly.
- Crossovers: You’re welcome to crossover with BA’s challenges. Include as many books across all the challenges as you can, I always say.
How To Sign-Up and Join In
- Choose Your Level: Choose a challenge level listed below.
- Sign Up Post: Create a post on your blog, in a group, or on a forum (where possible) to let others see what you’re aiming for (a predefined list of books is optional).
- Grab The Badge: Download or grab the badge and place it in your sign up post. Then link back to
Bookish Ardour. - Link Up: Grab the direct URL to your sign up post, not your blog, click the Mr Linky graphic and enter your link.
- Blogless? Don’t worry, you can sign up with your social network profile (YouTube, Twitter, GoodReads, Shelfari included), just make sure you link to your review list, shelf, tweet, or category. If you don’t have any of those feel free to comment.
- Your Reviews: Reviewing is optional! But if you do review it would be great for you to share them by submitting them on the review page.
- Finished: When you’re done it’s completion post time and you can share these on the completion/wrap-up page.
Challenge Levels
- Tempted– Choose 5 books to read
- Trying – Choose 15 books to read
- Making A Dint – Choose 30 books to read
- On A Roll – Choose 50 books to read
- Flying Off – Choose 75 books to read
- Hoarder – Choose between 76-135 books to read
- Buried – Choose between 136-200 books to read
Extra Challenges
If you feel like that extra kick to your reading challenges here’s a couple you can choose from.
- World: Choose a country as your theme, reading only books from that country or where it’s the setting. For how high you go you can choose more than one country;
- Level Tempted and Trying: Choose one country
- Level Making a Dint and On A Roll: Choose two countries
- Level Flying Off to end of Hoarder: Choose three countries
- Level Buried: Choose four countries.
- Gender Battle: Read books only by female or male authors. Another alternative is to read equal amounts of both.

Just started this challenge and added my link! (At least I hope it went through). My level is Making a Dint, so I hope that I can meet that goal! Thanks for this wonderful challenge. Also just started following you!
pagesofcomfort.blogspot.com
Can’t wait to get started on some of those books I HAD to have but haven’t read yet!
I ended up having to choose between two challenge levels! But I’m so glad I found this – I need to tackle my bookshelf instead of my Kindle a bit!
i’ve just signed up for the “making a dint” level! i’ve also pre-selected the books i’m hoping to read, and included them in my sign-up post.
Just signed up for the challenge and shared it at
http://www.create-with-joy.com/2013/01/2013-reading-challenges.html
Hi, So I have already signed up but I think I’ve put myself down twice in the Mister Linky thing – the first one #67 just has my full blog link and #68 has the direct post. Could #67 be removed? Also, is it possible for someone to check the blog post and see if I’ve linked everything correctly? New to this so unsure….
Hi, I signed up a while ago but just linked to my blog as I hadn’t done a sign-up post, you can find it
here! I’ve signed up for Buried level as I’ve got a LOT of books to read off my shelf
Already finished my first book, Agatha Christie — Problem at Pollensa Bay, i bought this book about two years ago >_<… when i was about to read it, it still wrapped up from the shop, kekekekek. Yeah this challenge really entertaining. i already off the shelf one of my book \^0^/
oh my gosh, please ignore my comment! I just saw the date…I’m an idiot!
Is it really too late to sign up for this challenge? I just noticed the December 16th deadline and I usually don’t do my posts until the new year starts so I’m behind! If it’s not too late I’d love to sign up!
Great idea!
I´ve signed up.
Just got signed up. Thanks for hosting again!
I am so glad I saw this on Logan E. Turner’s blog post. I was going to go it alone on something like this but it’s much easier to do when you have someone else to urge you along! Thanks for doing this challenge!
Heather
I’m in (again!) thanks for hosting!

Can’t wait to start! Thanks for hosting once again!!
Love this challenge…haven’t been successful in the past with reaching my goal, but I guess any book ‘off-the-shelf’ is better than none!
Thanks for hosting!
Just signed up. Will aim to read 75 books this year. :> is it possible to put up a badge on my goodreads page?
I’m looking forward to hitting the Trying level again this year.
All linkied up and first post made. I have even made a list of some of the books I want to get through.
This is a great idea, though I am having trouble picking my level I feel I am somewhere in between 1 and 2 :/
Don’t worry, I’m usually in between. You can always aim for the lower level and if you go over than you can feel even better. How’s that sound?
Looks liks I’m going for level one then
thanks
Looking forward to the Off the Shelf Challenge. It lines up perfectly with my New Years Resolution. Fingers Crossed! Thanks so much for hosting.
Okay, I really need to pare down my shelf. So, I’m going to try Making a Dint this coming year. I think I’ll pull 30 books from my collection at the end of the year and make those my first to read books.
I’m joining for the first time! LOVE it – I’ve been meaning to get more involved in book blogs, since I read so much and blog so much! So, I’m signing up for “Making a Dint” – SO EXCITED! Thanks for hosting this! http://wndrlust.blogspot.com/p/she-reads.html
ah,,,this challenge really interesting and i really want to join, but i have trouble here, since i’m new at blog area. i’m already sign up with that mister linky, and where can i find the badge and other?? thank before for anyone who will help me, Please..
it has to be here http://yunitagena.wordpress.com/category/shelvesofbooks-2/
i’m really sorry for giving trouble…i really want to join this challenge..thank you
Hi Yunita. You’re not being a trouble at all and I’m sorry I haven’t been able to help you yet. I’ve been very unwell and am still tryint to recover. I see you have your sign-up post and the badge, is there anything else you need help with?
As for reviews (I read your post), they’re optional. If you don’t want to review, you don’t have to, just read and have fun
Dear Bonnie,
wow thank you, i think i sing up for three times, can u just remove the 2 first sign up, please? thank you…because i’m reading my first challenge book… ^_^
hi, i’m yuna, an indonesia, i want to join…but today is the last day for sign up? can i get additional date? because i just read this post..
doenk (-_-”!) i think i got the sing up procedure wrong..i want to fix it..
I am joining at the Trying level. I have lots of books I bought this year or obtained for free that I want to read. I am using my 2nd blog for this challenge. I decided I needed a 2nd one so I can separate some challenges.
Hi:-) I`m signing up this year as well.
Beathe From Norway
I am going to try to “Make a Dent” this year with 30 books, I definitely need to read off my shelf in 2013!
Hi! I’d be happy to fit this in. You did a great job with ‘deets’ as you called it. LOL All that’s left to ask: may I please include material read before I found you? It won’t be prior to 2012. You’d laugh -or gasp- if you knew the % of books collected WELL before 2011!
http://cmriedel.wordpress.com/2012/07/02/gauged-exclusively-by-covers/
Hi Riedel. As long as the books themselves were acquired before 2012 then go for it. You can include all the read ones for this year, pre-sign up, in any of the challenges
Great to hear from you Bonnie! I wonder if you can edit my last name to RIEDEL (I before E)? Humans can’t resist the opposite for some reason. LOL! Most of my reads haven’t been reviewed so they’ll be new for you and I’m reading plenty of new ones. Your theme looks fun!
Oops sorry Riedel! You’re right, just then as I was typing your name I automatically went ei… I’m usually very careful too because of how often my name gets spelled with a y. Lets blame it on not being awake yet.
Excellent! I look forward to seeing what you’ve been reading and checking out your reviews. I hope you have fun with the challenge.
I made the same mistake as Jenny. Please update my link as well.
http://theartistrycollective.wordpress.com/2012/01/16/off-the-shelf-2012/
I’m #193.
Thanks!!!!
Hi Ana, no worries, I’ll be updating this for you today. Thanks for letting me know.
I was the goofball who didn’t follow directions and didn’t post the direct link to my off the shelf post on the mister linky. I tried to edit it myself, but alas
Here’s the link! http://jennylikesbooks.wordpress.com/2012/06/30/off-the-shelf-2012/
ALSO, thank you soooo much for doing this challenge again!! It is seriously like the best ever.
Not a problem Jenny, it happens
I’m glad you’re enjoying it so far. It gives me the warm and fuzzies knowing readers are reading and having fun. I’m updating your link now.
Joining in as I have a lot of books that I need to get off my shelf. Here is a link to my challenge list…
http://www.amandasweeklyzen.com/2011/11/classics-challenges-2012.html
Happy Reading
Amanda
Good luck Amanda and enjoy. I’ve also updated your link so everyone can find your list.
I submitted the wrong link
http://whatsgoingonwithaddie.blogspot.com/2012/04/challenge-accepted-off-shelf-2012.html heres the right one
im doing the trying level
how do i get the badge for this and dystopia 2012 ?
No problems Adrianne, I’ll update the link for you as soon as I can.
I take it you can’t see the badge? I’ll email it to you, but this may take some time because I’m currently limited in my abilities due to health reasons and havne’t been able to email for awhile. You don’t need it to sign up or take part in the challenge for now, so carry on with it, and I’ll try and get the badge to you as soon as I can.
I really would like to be sent the badge. I want Hoarder. I was told it would be sent to me! I’m going to put it up on my twitter pictures since I don’t have a blog and twitter is what I’m using as my linky.
I’m going for hoarder, i know I should do buried, but I’m a bit of a slacker, so I’m leaving failure room LOL. Love this challenge, thanks for creating it.
Count me in! Going with “Making a Dent”–I gotta lotta books to burn through!
YAY
Aiming for “On a roll”. This challenge is a great one for a bookoholic like me
!!
I have read books for this challenge and posted the reviews on my blog, Is there a way to have that associated with my sign up winky?
Hey Lorelei, have you been submitting your review links to the review page?
Thank you, I ‘ve been reviewing on my blog but a little copy and paste will fix it.
All you need to do is copy the URL of your review post and place it into the Mr Linky on the reviews page. There’s no need to copy and paste your actual review into the Off the Shelf Reviews page. Everyone will be able to find your reviews easily via the Mr Linky. if you have any problems let me know.
I’m in. Are you supposed to send us a badge? I’m sorry, I’m new to blogging and I thought that I am allowed to copy the image and link back to your page for my first post.
Here’s my first post declaring my intent to join http://kikay-reader.blogspot.com/2012/02/im-joining-off-shelf-2012-reading.html.
Tell me if there’s anything I need to do before I start.
That’s only for those who can’t see the image, sometimes it won’t show up for some reason, but copying the image and using it in your post is the way to go.
There’s nothing else you have to do before you start, just sign up and away you go. Have fun!
What a great challenge! I’ve had several books for years and just never gotten around to reading them because I keep buying more. What a good excuse to stop buying and start reading! Thanks for hosting.
Looking forward to this challenge. I really need to read some of those older books. Thanks for the great challenge.
For some reason, no matter how many unread books I have on my shelves, the ones in the stores always look better. It’s time to clear up the backlog a bit. This is a good challenge for me. Thanks.
i agree with you, that happens to me too, the ones in the stores always look better. kekekekeke
Hi, I have signed up today. Thanks for the challenge. I have listed my 5 books. If things go well, I will upgrade to 15 books
Would I be able to have the badge sent to me? I want hoarder please!
Hi Safina, I haven’t been able to send you any badges yet as I have limited internet access for the time being, but I noticed you signed up with your Twitter account. Is there a blog you’ll be using the badge on because if so you can also sign up with the blog before getting the badge. Otherwise, if there’s no where to put it there’s no need for it
I can put it up as a picture on my Twitter account!
Fair enough and always a good idea. Thanks Safina, I’ll send it to you as soon as I can get to my emails again. It may be a couple of weeks till then, but I’ll definitely remember.
Much appreciated. I want everyone on Twitter to know! Reading is so fun and lovely.
I guess . . . it’s been tough on you. I see you are busy.
I can’t wait to get my badge.
I am super excited for it to arrive.
Hi Safina, I apologise for not being able to send the badge to you yet. I have been away due to health reasons and continue to be unavailable. I know you want to share the badge with your twitter followers, and appreciate that you do, but you’re able to start the challenge without the badge. More so seeing as you’re on Twitter.
I encourage you to begin the challenge without the badge as I’m not sure when I’ll be able to catch up on everything, including emailing the badge out to participants. All you need to do is tweet about it, which you can do right from this page (at the end of the BA content), and then sign up with your twitter account if you haven’t already.
And then get to reading of course
sorry for any inconvenience.
Oh, yes. I have definitely started my reading challenge. I just wanted to brag about it! I am very sad that you are away. I hope you feel better. I am sorry if I sounded mean.
I am just very anxious to show off to my friends and followers. I have already signed up w/ my twitter as my linky.
Thanks a ton Bonnie!
Hi there, I’m excited to be challenged to read all my dusty books I’ve meaning to read. Thanks for hosting.
Definitely doing this one! I’ll be doing 15 for this challenge. (signed up with my shelfari!)
I’m in!
http://shanatalks.wordpress.com/challenges/off-the-shelf/
Your link has been re-entered Shana. Have fun with the challenge.
Hi, I just joined up, hopefully, setting myself a more realistic total than last year! I’m going for 30 this year!!
This is great! I was just creating my list and then found this challenge.
I only have 6 books on my list (Tempted), but I will feel accomplished when I finish with those titles.
Thanks so much for organizing this!
Line up books – this is your year.
I’ve signed up and I hope I will do it a lot better this year!:) Hope you’ll send me the badge when you have time. Have a nice weekend!
I’m in….
I signed up and I’m really looking forward to it. I’m starting at 15, but hopefully I’ll get father. I have a lot of books I need to get through.
Just found this challenge thru Lynne’s Little Corner of the World blog. I more than qualify for this challenge. Starting out low, aiming high knowing I can change my level later.
I’ve signed up for Making a Dent (here is my sign-up post), but I’m not-so-secretly hoping to add up being On a Roll. Nice to know there’s a lot of company to be had in this venture! Thanks very much for hosting!
My blog is not really about books so I may not post much on there but I want to join the Challenge. I am on Librarything though. Now to select some books! I’ll start with level 2.
As long as you’ve got somewhere where we can see the books you’ve read Librarything will be fine. Accepting the challenge is the most important thing. And of course, having fun while you’re doing it.
Thanks for that. In fact I’ve now signed up to Goodreads and made a shelf there for my books http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/7377583?shelf=off-the-shelf-challenge-2012 so I’ll use that.
That works just as well. Sorry about the delay Diana. I’ve updated the link for you too. Hope you’re having fun with the challenge.
Thanks for hosting! I’ve now posted and added my link to the linky. I’ve decided to go for On A Roll – 50 books. Looking forward to making a dent in my TBR pile!
Just signed up, my first ever challenge! Hopefully this will motivate me to actually read some of the dozens of books I bought last year… On A Roll or Flying Off, to be decided upon soon
Well, this is something new for me this year. But I really need to do something about Mt. To-Be-Read. So, I’ll try “Making a Dint” and hopefully the public exposure will force me to keep up!
I have so many books in my bookcase that I have to read, so I’m really looking forward to the challenge
I wanna join as well, but the Linky is not working
Hi Book Girl, sorry I’ve taken this time to get back to you (away from the computer). Have you clicked on the image? I’d like to know what you’ve done so we can fix it. For now, I don’t have enough internet access to check out Mr Linky, but when I do, if we can’t figure out what’s going on I can always add all your links
Go ahead and begin the challenges and we can go from there.
I’ve entered your link for you, it will just be further down then your last link. Sorry about the delay and I hope you’ve been reading those books already. Have fun!
Mr Linky is not working
http://norwegianbookgirl.blogspot.com/2012/01/happy-new-year.html
I have problems using Mr Linky, but I wanna join as well
http://norwegianbookgirl.blogspot.com/2012/01/happy-new-year.html
I signed up about a week ago except I didn’t read all the rules. Now that I have, I would like to put the badge on my blog but it won’t let me click on it. If you could send that to me that would be great!
Hi Crystal,
Sorry about the delay. I currently have limited access to the internet, but will send the badge to you as soon as I can.
For curiosities sake, are you not able to right click on the image to download it?
Hi! I accidentally linked to the wrong page the first time I signed up so I’ll pop up twice.
Thanks for hosting.
No worries Alysson, I’ll fix it up for you. Thanks for letting me know and for joining in.
Hi. came here from ‘A Novel Challenge’. Is this challenge open to anyone? I would like to sign up. Do let me know so that I can include it in my sign-up post for 2012 challenges.
Thanks.
Hey Sandhya, it’s open to readers everywhere so feel free to sign up whenever you get a chance.
Signing up for the ‘I’m Trying- 15 books’ level. I hope to be able to upgrade.:)
Here’s my sign up post.
http://www.arightowrite.blogspot.com/2012/01/reading-challenges-for-2012.html
Thanks for hosting.
I have so many books I have not gotten a chance to read so I signed up for level 6.
I really am hoping to make a big dent in the books sitting on my bookshelves, but I also like going to the library and participating in book tours, so I am being conservative with the level I chose – 30 books.
Thanks for hosting this challenge!
I’m in:) Nice challenge! Just the right one for me as the unread part of my bookshelf starting to grow. (http://ininasbokverden.blogspot.com/2012/01/utfordring-off-shelf-2012.html)
I’m in again for 2012! I’ve signed up with Mr. Linky, and put up a post on my blog:
http://jlshall.blogspot.com/2011/12/off-shelf-challenge-2012.html
Thanks so much for hosting!
First time here for me as well. I look forward to reaching level 2, and perhaps higher!
This is perfect for my 2012 resolutions. I wanted to get some challenges done this year and get some of those books read. Poor things have been feeling neglected.
This is perfect for my 2012 resolutions. I wanted to do some challenges this year. Bring it!
I’m in. I ready plenty of books in 2011 – way more than I had challenged myself, but I didn’t get as many off my shelves as I’d hoped. I’m hoping this year I’ll do better.
Booklady
It’s 2012! Now we can all start reading! Good luck everyone and I hope you have plenty of fun.
For those just signing up now, the limit to sign up is the end of this year so you can take your time. For those having trouble with badges and have let me know about them, I’ll be sending it out to you today.
Enjoy!
Great, thanks!
Whoo hoo! I’m so excited and so ready for this!
Thanks for hosting
Is it too late to sign up for this challenge? I’ve been looking for challenges for 2012 and this one sounds perfect!!
It’s not too late at all. You’ve got all the way till the end of December to sign up so relax and do it when you’re able to
I hope I’m not too late, today being Jan. 1st! Looking forward to clearing off the shelf!
This seems fun
At last an incentive to read those TBR books
Hello – I just saw your challenge on another blog I follow and thought this one would be a good one for me too. I just linked my blog up and am going to putting your button on my blog. Thanks for doing this.
I signed up in November – but I haven’t got the badge – can someone email me a link code?
At the moment I just have a ‘picture ‘ of it on my blog, but no magic-linky-doodle-icon-thingy…..!
Meanwhile I have just been drawing up my reading order (which will no doubt be deviated from…!) and am just off to hunt out the first book……
I hope everyone succeeds with whatever goal they have set themselves and remember: it’s enjoyment, not a chore!
Hi SueH,
That’s pretty much having the badge, usually you’d host and link it up yourself, but I can give you the proper code if that makes it easier. Give me some time and I’ll email it to you today.
I need this challenge so bad! Thank you so much
Hopefully this will help with the un-books gathering dust on my shelf problem. Hope my link went through!
Just what I need to get through all the books I bought when Borders was closing.
Yehey! 2011 is nearly done and I’m finish with my Off the Shelf! challenge a long time ago. But the, another Off the Shelf! challenge this year won’t bite me anyway. Joining another fun year with you guys, happy new year and wish you all the best!
Time to start tackling my huge TBR pile. I’m so ready for this!
Entering to get my paper books of the shelf. I totally forgotten about them after buying an e-reader about 2 years ago.
entered the challenge hopefully I can make a dent in my TBR pile
I’m in!
http://slightly-foxed.tumblr.com/post/14978456362/books-looking-ahead
My TBR pile is huge–this is great! Thanks for hosting!
I’m in! But I’m not very adept at this. I am both person #97 and person #105. Please delete me as person #97, as that link is to my whole blog and not the page about the challenge! Thanks! Diana
No worries Diana, will do as soon as I’m at a computer. Thanks for letting me know and for joining in.
I participated in this challenge this year and failed miserably! I only read 3 of the 31 books that I had on the shelf. I’m certain that I acquired more than 31 books last year considering I read a total of 22. But I’m participating again! I received 6 books as gifts and I ordered several coming into the end of the year so I’m planning to read most of them in 2012. As for the 31 – sighs….. who know’s when I’ll get to them!
I have a shelf, and bags full of books and need to make room to buy new books so I am looking at the “trying” level
I did a similar challenge to this in 2011 and am looking forward to doing even better this year
I’m on Trying level
I’m going for Trying, as luckily I don’t have too much clutter lying around!
This year I’m in!
sorry, #55 is the wrong link
Not a problem Gina. I’ll fix it up when I’m at a computer. Thank you for letting me know and for joining in.
I’m signing up at the “Tempted” level, thank you for this amazing challenge!
This is my first official reading challenge since I was a kid so I’m so excited! I have a mountain of books to get me started – buy books faster than I read them (although I’m sure I’m not the only one!). I will start off with Making a Dint and see how I go from there; hopefully somewhere between 30-50.
Would lvoe to do this one again
I’ll make a dint, count me in!
Two Challenges this year!!! What am I thinking?!! I am only six months into my blog!
Thank you for having this Challenge, as my book shelves are filled with books crying to be read!
For the badge I went the Photobucket route, uploading, downloading, and uploading like a crazy lady!! And here I am!
I look forward to this Challenge!
Patricia
I really can’t find the badge! I want to choose hoarder!
Sorry about that Safina, we’ve been having disappearing issues with it.
I’m away from the computer at the moment, but when I go on today I’ll send it to you. In the meantime, don’t worry, go ahead and put your post up
Where do I get my badge?
We’re also signing up for this one, great excuse to read all those awesome books we bought but never had time to read. Thanks for the challenge!
OK. I am officially in. My plan is to read only TBR books for my European Reading Challenge and the other challenges I signed up for, so I should make some progress.
This is going to be the first challenge ever. I am really excited about this. I am going to Level 2: Trying.
I’m so in – between my printed and ebooks I could read for years and not have to buy any new books. Not that that will happen! Thanks so much for hosting!
Thanks for hosting this challenge, Bonnie! I’m really looking forward to digging into my unread books.
I really want to do this, but I am new to blogging and could use a bit of help. I made my post about doing this. I get that. But how do I get the link badge onto my blog? I can’t seem to get that figured out. I’m sure it is something simple and when you say it I’ll go, “aaahhh”, but I just can’t figure it out. Help???
Hey Angie,
Don’t worry, we’ll sort it out, and we all have those times with blogging. I hope you subscribed to the answers so you get this, but if not I’ll contact you personally about it after a few days.
First things first, where do you have your blog hosted? Blogger, WordPress, somewhere else?
And have you been able to download the badge yet?
I did subscribe to I got this right away.
Thanks. I am slowly figuring it all out….I think.
I have my blog hosted through Blogger. I have downloaded other “badges”, but can’t really figure out yours. The other ones had the link under the badge to copy and paste. That worked for me no problem. I just don’t know how to move the badge to my sidebar if there is not a copy and paste link. So if you could help me out with that step it would be great.
No worries Angie. The problem with WP is not being able to place that code into the post, it won’t come up, so the other alternative is the long way round.
Instead I’ve gone and hosted it for you myself
But if you come across this problem again in future I’ll give you an explanation of the longer version. Right click (or grab if you’re on Mac) the image you want to have and then click Save As.
Once you’ve downloaded it you’ll want to upload it to a hosting site like Photobucket. When that’s uploaded you’ll see options underneath the image. Select the HTML option and you use that to place the image into your side panel or post.
With the link back, copy the post you want the image to link back to, and then replace the url after the first <a href=" with the url you've copied.
It can be a bit confusing at first, but I'm sure you'll get the hang of it pretty quickly. And I hope that's helped too. If you have any questions or need more help with it feel free to ask though.
Ok, that didn’t work so I’m just going to email you the code instead.
Would even let me sign in
Are you having trouble posting your link Lindy?
I AM GLAD TO SEE THIS CHALLENGE AGAIN. I AM IN AT HOARDER LEVEL.
KIM IN OHIO
sounds fun
Ok let’s do this !
This is the kind of challenge I need to start reading all these books I’ve been collecting and collecting for years!
I’m in! It’s my first time trying it and I’m definitely excited. I’m going for the On A Roll Level. I’ve got the badge on my sidebar, my post is up and I signed up on Mr. Linky – just waiting for it to show up there.
Hurrah! I needed an incentive to whittle down my TBR pile!
I’m not being too ambitious – settled for ‘Trying’ status, without the extra challenges of countries, etc.; for me, the point of the exercise is for it to be fun and I have no intention of feeling under the cosh!
As a former Library Assistant I may even get round to reading some of the titles I used to have to shelve! (or in this case – get them OFF THE SHELF! ;-p)
Sounds a great idea, will read 15 books, only classics, they increase my own ability to hopefully write better literature,
Just signed up – and need to go though the book mountain!
I did this challenge last year and I’ve barely squeaked past my goal of 15 books! I’m in again this year for the same amount. Thanks for hosting!
I’m in! In 2011, I read a grand total of 1 book on my OtS Challenge list. I’m definitely going to break that record in 2012.
Joined for the trying level and hoping to do better. First year doing challenges!
Joined for the hoarder level…we’ll see how it goes
thanks for hosting!
Going to join at the On A Roll level – will update blog later
Heard about this from Kaye at Pudge Penguin Perusals. I’m going for On a Roll, which is realistic although it will make only a small reduction in the books I own waiting to be read.
Thanks for hosting. I signed up and am going for Hoarder level.
I’m gonna go for Making A Dint. I attempted to go for 50 books this year, but it doesn’t look like I’ll reach that goal.I’ve read over 30 though!
Pretty excited for this. This will definitely give me an excuse to get started on my huge pile that is literally off the shelf.
I’m just doing the first level though–5 books, to start at least!
I’m “On a Roll”. Thanks for another challenge to help me tackle my TBR pile!
I really like this challenge. I’ve signed up to do this as part of the Reading Challenge Addict Challenge. I’ve decided to sign in at ‘Tempted’ level, and have also decided that all my books must be Russian (although I will read them in English!).
Love this challenge! Can’t wait to start reading for 2012!
Thank you for hosting again this year. I completed this challenge last year and hoping for the same in 2012.
What an excellent challenge! Thanks for hosting it!
SOOOOO need to catch up on my TBR pile! Thanks for hosting this challenge!!!
Welcome Heather and thanks for joining in with yet another one
Can’t wait! Thanks for hosting. This is my first year to try this challenge – so I chose the “Trying” level. Hope that way I can be successful.
It is my pleasure Beverly and I think trying is a great number to start off with if you’re not sure how you’ll go. You can always change it too if you need to.
Excited to do this challenge for the first time!
Welcome to your first time with it Danielle and thank you for joining in!
I’m in again this year. Still working on making my list for last year. Hope to get it conquered before Dec. 31!
Welcome back to it Bev. Good luck with that list and I hope you can get through it to start afresh next year
I can’t find the picture to go along with this challenge either. Where is it?
It’s the picture in the post Mamamunky. Scripts and code work differently on WP compared to Blogger so you have to download or grab it yourself.
I can see it now. When I posted that comment, I couldn’t see any picture at all in the post. That’s why I was confused.
A bit later, after replying to you, I had another read of your comment and realised that’s probably what you meant (sorry, I probably shouldn’t play catch up just before bed!). I don’t know what was going on there. I had a look on different computers and browsers, but could see it each time. Maybe it was just having an off day.
Oh well, at least it’s up there now for you and I hope that didn’t turn you off.
No, I knew it wasn’t your fault. I could see it on my nook but not on my laptop. It’s all good now. I got it and my post about this challenge is written and just waiting to be published.
I’m definitely up for this – signing up for “on a roll”. I’ll sort my sign up post this afternoon
Great to hear o. On a Roll is a pretty decent number to aim for and you can change that any time you want.
I will conquer that mountain of unread books in the coming year. I need to impose harsher restrictions on my book purchasing, even in regards to the series I am collecting.
It gets hard to control sometimes doesn’t it? Sometimes… what am I on about? Just about all the time! What series are you collecting?
I love the sound of this challenge. I definitely have a shelf full of books that would appreciate my participation. They are starting to feel a bit neglected. Can’t wait to get started!
Glad you’re joining in Jessica! It’s pretty easy to neglect those older ones isn’t it? There’s so many new books to read all the time.
I came across the Off the Shelf Challenge in May this year. Although I knew that I could sign up after it had already started, I wanted to sign up for one of the larger challenges because my to-read list is so big.
I understand. I’ve come across challenges in the past, after it has started, and didn’t want to begin it at the later date because it didn’t fit in with my TBR anymore. You’ve got a head start now though
Cool! I’ll be doing a signup post later this week. But… where’s the badge? Am I slow or something?
Great! Thanks for joining in Christina
Not slow at all. It’s the above image in the post. I don’t have any code to go with it, that doesn’t seem to work with WP like it does on Blogger, but you’re welcome to grab or download the image.
